The Energy Monitoring System provides accurate energy data
The energy monitoring system consists of two key components: the High Power-D-Box MRU for power distribution and load protection and the monitoring & reporting unit (MRU10) for precise data recording and analysis.
This combination enables continuous power consumption monitoring of active IT components. It forms the basis for collecting key performance indicators (KPI), such as power usage effectiveness (PUE), an essential KPI for optimising energy efficiency.
The MRU10 measures parameters such as current, voltage, power and energy. The recorded values are either displayed directly on site via an integrated 2.2-inch display, visualised via a graphical user interface (GUI) or transmitted to a central management system. As all common protocols, such as SNMP, Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, are supported, the system can seamlessly integrate into existing IT infrastructures. A single MRU10 can monitor up to ten High Power-D-Boxes from as far aways as 10 metres from the power distribution system. Even at these distances, the measurement accuracy is approximately +/-1 %.

The High Power D-Box MRU has measuring sensors for both supply groups (Feed A and Feed B) to precisely measure and verify the actual energy consumption per IT rack. This ensures transparency and enables fair, rack level consumption-based billing. This allows cost allocation based on actual consumption data rather than on flat rates or cost estimates. At the same time, the system provides reliable data for planning. Actual energy consumption can be visualised, which helps prevent oversizing and designing the electrical infrastructure in line with actual demand. This provides a substantiated basis for increased energy efficiency and optimised operating costs.
The solution’s compact design is another strong argument. With only three height units (HU), valuable space in data centres can be used optimally. The monitoring and reporting unit itself requires only 1 HU and the complementing High Power-D-Box MRU power distribution system only occupies 2 HU.

The system’s future-proof design is another key advantage. The MRU10 can be retrofitted without interrupting operation. This means that you can directly use existing High Power-D-Boxes with current sensors for power distribution and, if necessary, expand them later to include monitoring technology. This flexibility ensures that data centres are positioned to handle increasing requirements in the long term without cost-prohibitive downtimes for retrofitting.
The High Power D-Box MRU power distribution system addresses these challenges, amongst other things, through its hot swapping principle, which allows circuit breakers to be replaced or plugged-in during operation. Even if additional loads need to be connected in the IT rack, this provides the ideal conditions.
The High Power D-Box MRU has a redundant design, which ensures uninterrupted operation of the connected loads - even in the event of a fault. The integrated group alarm signalling ensures reliable alarm management.
The combination of the MRU10 and the High Power D-Box MRU offers a flexible, scalable and future-proof solution for energy-efficient and reliable and secure data centres.
